Easy Come, Easy Go
This past weekend, San Francisco and the Bay Area experienced a heat wave as the temperatures reached the 80’s in the city and higher in outlying areas.
On both Saturday and Sunday, Dolores Park was packed with sunbathers and picnickers. The grassy park, which slopes upward toward Noe Valley, is the equivalent of the beach for residents of the nearby Mission, Castro and Noe Valley neighborhoods. It’s much more accessible and typically has much better weather than trekking across town to Ocean Beach, which is often blanketed in fog. Plus, there are many special events that happen at Dolores Park that attracts crowds.
This past weekend was no different, except that nary a pair of jeans—practically the uniform of San Francisco—could be seen amongst the throngs of women in bikinis, sun dresses or baby doll dresses. Ripped abs or not (mostly not), guys’ shirts and tops were discarded. For those of guys of a particular persuasion, it was Speedos galore to show their buff bods. Regardless, everyone wanted to be cool and revel in the balmy and ‘Southern California’-like weather.
For yours truly, I opted for a Sugar Mini on both days: on Saturday, it was a pistachio green and on Sunday, dark lilac purple with a little ‘bare the shoulders and back’ sporty Prana criss-cross tank number. I need little excuse to show off. I deserved it as I did plenty of weight training and elliptical cardio work on Saturday and went for a run on Sunday. I had my Sublime Bronze tanning lotion in one hand and the spray-on sun block in the other.
Yes, it was an unbelievable beautiful weekend. One must take advantage of these beautiful days as they come along, particularly since the summer fog, for which our city if famous, will be arriving shortly. A bit too quickly however.
By Sunday evening, the fog began to blanket the city and temperatures in the city began to nose dive. By today, it’s quite cool and brisk despite the deceptive sunshine.
Oh well, easy come, easy go.
Cruising and chilling in DP was great this weekend. I was there most of the day on Sunday with some friends, fresh fruit, and frozen treats c/o Bi-Rite. I wore shorts for the first time in 12 months.
But yes - easy come, easy go. :)
