'Sunny Crockett'
Today's chilly temperature did not deter my desire to wear a spring-hued outfit. A heavy turtleneck sweater would have been perfectly appropriate given the blustery weather. But no, I chose to wear a pastel-laden outfit.
No it wasn't a spaghetti-strap, spring dress with floral prints and colorful strappy sandals, but it was my twenty-first century interpretation of Don Johnson in the 1980's television show Miami Vice, a cop drama dominated by pastel colors and designer clothes (you can watch reruns on NBC.com.) The late Gianni Versace had been one of the contributors to the wardrobe worn by the main characters Crockett and Tubbs.
My outfit consisted of my favorite white Rock & Republic Roth-style flared jeans (yes, so 2005, but I love them), a white blazer from Banana Republic, and a bright chartreuse green, cap-sleeve top, which I had searched high and low at the time to match the best and stand-out item of this outfit:
My Cesare Paciotti lime green, patent leather pointy-toe, monk strap, four and quarter in stilettos. The shoes also sport the Paciotti dagger with pink jewels. Here's a photo from the spring 2004 advertisement:
My Kata Cirrus frames, however, had to stand in for the jet-black Ray-Ban Wayferers popularized by Don Johnson in the show.
My former manager at work often wears a suit. He's the best dressed in our office as he's more consistent than I am. He has great style and has what appears to be an endless supply of ties. When I told him that we could be Crocket and Tubbs as he wore a suit and tie today, he pulled out from his desk his jet-black sunglasses and put them on!
